A proposal for regulating the geological sequestration of carbon dioxide

摘要：
Geological sequestration of carbon dioxide is a novel technology for mitigating greenhouse gas emission. While technical forerunners such as US, EU, etc. are actively renovating regulatory frameworks for conducting effective and safe geological CO2 sequestration, current regulations in Korea are somewhat inappropriate in managing various potential risks emerging from this unprecedented operations. Prior to practicing full-scale commercial sequestrations, therefore, relevant regulations are needed to be complemented, and open discussions among stakeholders on issues in geological CO2 sequestration such as design of regulatory frameworks, the main body of management and operation, selection of target formation, area of review, composition of injecting fluids, etc.
