摘要
This paper aims to discuss about the contribution of the teaching of mathematics to the literacy of children in the literacy cycle that has a valid purpose in the development of logical reasoning, stimulation of critical thinking, creativity and in the ability to solve problems. We understand that it is up to the teacher in the context of the classroom to promote situations of critical reading / understanding of the world since Mathematics constitutes as an opportunity of literacy, thus conferring meaning to reading and writing skills. The discussion stems from the importance of the acquisition of the mathematical language associated to the teaching of the mother tongue. We argue, then, for children to have access to a literacy process that combines both the teaching of the mother tongue and the mathematical language.
