ACCULTURATIVE STRESS - A THEORY OF RELEVANCE TO BLACK-AMERICANS

Contemporary views of stress have not been systematically extended to black populations. As a result, we know very little about how black Americans experience or cope with stress. This review begins with an examination of some of the major concepts concerning stress. Then the article describes a framework that has particular relevance for investigating the experience of stress in black populations. Next the concept of acculturative stress is presented. © 1991.
