Equilibrium concentration data are presented for the system water-oleic acid-ethanol using a commercial grade solvent. The components and physical properties of the solvent are reported as well as the densities of the equilibrated aqueous and organic phases. The concentration data are shown to be well represented by the NRTL model for predicting liquid-liquid equilibria. Since the organic fluid is shown to give good separation and is not harmful to the growth cycle of Saccharomyces cerevislae, these results are useful for designing in situ, extractive fermentation processes.
