A COMPARISON OF THE NUMERICAL AND ANALYTICAL TREATMENTS OF A LIQUID-METAL ION-SOURCE

摘要
The development of a sophisticated computer program that numerically models liquid-metal ion sources has recently been reported by the present authors. The program has now been run for several liquid metals, namely gallium, caesium and gold. This paper reports results concerning LMIS current-voltage characteristics, the length of the liquid cusp, and the limiting angle of the liquid cone. The numerically evaluated current-voltage characteristics and cusp lengths are also compared with the results of analytical treatments due to Mair, and Mair and Forbes, respectively.
