摘要
The article attempts to apply gender analysis to two novels by Brookner that stand apart in her legacy. Created in the genre of a family saga, they introduce, for the first time, a thoroughly-developed male images, in which a masculine element is very important. From the gender-based point of view, the two novels not only center on the depiction of love relationships but also on family conflicts. The article describes modes of male and female behavior (differences in discourses, gender roles, mental and emotional characteristics) in these novels, analyzes the characters from the point of view of the stereotypes of masculinity and femininity, discusses the peculiarity of the gender conflict of the novels.
