GERMAN MUSIC FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF GERMAN MUSICOLOGY AFTER 1933

This contribution to the symposium “Music as Viewed by Science”, concerned with a more recent segment of music history, asks the concrete historical question: how did German musicology deal with German music after 1933? Several aspects of the relationship between music and scholarship will be taken into view, those often neglected or forgotten in a systematic, theoretical examination of the relationship between music and musicology and, in general, between the arts and sciences.
