APPLICATION OF SPATIAL FILTERS TO DOA ESTIMATION OF COHERENT SOURCES

The existence of a set of coherent signals invalidates direct applications of the eigendecomposition-based methods and some modifications are necessary. Spatial smoothing is one of the common approaches to this problem. In this work, we propose an approach, which we call "spatial filtering," to fully decorrelate coherent sources. This approach resolves some of the problems inherent to spatial smoothing by taking advantage of rough preliminary estimates of the unknown parameters. Our theoretical findings are supported by several simulations under different conditions.
