The development of the studies of Regional Economy in Spain

The main objective of this paper is to offer a panoramic approach to the evolution of regional economic studies in Spain. From a short introduction, the section 2 shows some features of the slow process of integrating the space - territory - in the economic analysis. Section 3 analyses the most relevant factors which have influenced on the development regional studies in Europe as a framework for the Spanish case. And, finally, taking the preceding ideas into account the author explores the main driving factors which have carried to consolidate regional economic studies in Spain, reaching the excellent level they show today. A short number of final remarks close the paper.
