Chronicle of a foretold workers' tragedy: the Chilean miners

As a counterpoint to the international media's emphasis on the rescue and its codification as a noble chapter in Chile's political history in 2010, this article analyses the miners' narratives on their survival strategies in a situation of extreme confinement, the processes of their post-traumatic memories and their professional perspectives one year after the accident in the workplace, contextualizing it within the country's adoption of a radical neoliberaism over the last decades. The main sources for the miners' testimonies are the book The 33 (J. Franklin, 2011) and documentaries, mainly Los 33: con los pies en la tierra (J. Cabezas, 2011).
