The theme of the meeting was quality of life and economic evaluation in respiratory disease, and these measures have to be valid and useful both as clinical tools for individual patients and as tools to be used in clinical trials to study and compare groups of patients and therapies. This paperreviews the practical issues regarding the incorporation of a quality of life measure into conventional clinical trials, from the drug development point of view, rather than from an individual clinician's point of view. © 1991, Baillière Tindall All rights reserved.
