摘要
This theoretical study aims to analyze the solid waste management in the tourist destination of Fernando de Noronha. The Fernando de Noronha archipelago, located in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, is considered an ecological sanctuary, with environmental conservation areas, that receives tourists from all over the world. This place requires a proper solid waste management for environmental protection. So, the metodology used in this study was bibliographical and ducumentary, as well as data collection through in loco visits. The collected data was analyzed with qualitative approach. Among the results it was identified that the limited flow of turists in the archipelago and the demarcation of environmentally protected areas are efficient forms to control waste generation. In addition, selective colletion and sorting of solid waste is adopted in Fernando de Noronha. However, despite the existence of a Plan of Integrated Solid Waste Management, based on the Brazilian Solid Waste Policy, it is perceived the need for improvements in the physioal structure, as well as greater efficiency in environmental education of the local population and the visitors.
