We have studied the anisotropy in Tb-Fe/Al2O3 multilayers prepared by rf sputtering. These samples are amorphous. The perpendicular M - H loops are rectangular and the anisotropy is uniaxial. The product of the effective anisotropy K(eff).t(Tb-Fe) shows a linear dependence with t(Tb-Fe) as normally found for the superlattices yielding the bulk and surface anisotropies of + 1.5 x 10(6) erg cm3 and -0.15 erg cm2, respectively. This is, in our opinion, the first time that a surface anisotropy has been found in such a totally amorphous multilayer. The results are discussed.
