THE EFFECT OF TWO DIFFERENT DENTURE CLEANSERS ON SURFACE HARDNESS OF ACRYLIC RESIN TEETH

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of two differnt type of denture cleansers, (1% sodium hypochloride and alkalin peroxyde based Fittydent), on surface hardness of two different brands of acrylic resin denture teeth. Polodent and Sarnet brand denture teeth. 15 of each brand, have been assigned to three groups of which one was the control group (immersed in distilled water). Denture teeth have been immersed in their respective solutions for periods representing one week, three months and one year of denture and cleanser use. Vickers hardnes test has been applied to all samples. Although not at a statistically significant level (p>0.05). immersion in cleanser solutions has been found to reduce surface hardness in all samples. The surface hardness values at one year was significantly lower than the values at one week in both cleanser groups (p<0.05).
