The article deals with the problem of the finality of the English and the French bourgeois revolutions in connection to the way to solve the agrarian problem as presented by S. I. Archangelsky. The author presents a new evaluation of the 'conservatism' of the English and the 'radicalism' of the French agrarian reforms, linked to the idea of 'historical optimum'. It is shown that the 'conservatism' of the English revolution of the 17th c. is a myth that has nothing to do with a Marxist interpretation of this event.
