Healthy, Saudi camels 27 adults and 34 calves, of either sex, were investigated for normal serum activities of the following enzymes: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma- transpeptidase (GGT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK), alpha-amylase (a-AMY) and alkaline phosphatase (AP). The results indicated that neither age nor sex had a significant effect on normal serum ALT or LDH activities. On the otherhand, camels clave had significantly higher AST, CK, GGT and AP serum activities than adult camels, while a significant sex effect was found for AST and a-AMY. The present data indicated that normal serum AP levels in Saudi camels were somewhat higher than those reported elsewhere in camels.
