GREEN URBAN AREAS AND SURFACE TEMPERATURE IN THE CITY OF TRES LAGOAS/MS

This article addresses the green urban areas theme and its relation with surface temperature in the city of Tres Lagoas/MS. Assessing, representing and relating green areas to surface temperature and raising questions about land use and land cover in the urban area were the objectives adopted as a first step towards developing the study. Althought this was only the first approach, an intermixed of valuable inputs and high potetial methodology, there was an interspersed discussion of classification of existing green areas as potentialities or those ones which have already been indicated as effective for the population. The procedures adopted were satisfactory in order to achieve the proposed objectives. The Digital Image Processing (PDI) has provided land use mapping, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and the actual land surface temperature, based on the estimation of the emissivity of the terrestrial surface. With this, the methodology has collaborated with the collection of data collection, information and results which approximate this theme to future planning, biology, climatology and urban biogeography works in the city of Tres Lagoas. In land-use mapping, as it is expected in a city, the largest class was the "dense urban area" with low NDVI. Regarding the identification of green urban areas, it was identified seven areas in the city, highlighting the characteristics adopted for the characterization. Lastly, a great potential has been identified in the city of which remais unused.
