POOR STUDENTS NEWLY ARRIVED AT HIGHER EDUCATION - TRAJECTORY AND PERCEPTIONS

摘要
We present findings of focal groups with poor students of Salvador/Bahia. That is an exploratory piece of research with students taking part in a comprehensive support program. This paper intends to grasp how those students evaluate their own educational trajectory, the influences of theirs social backgrounds and the reasoning that had motivated them to try the access to the university. There are also questions about the beginning time in the higher education environment, the difficulties and the adaptation process. The results are coherent with other investigations on the theme but we highlight some individual aspects usually elided in sociological literature.
