Art and technology: the ethical and political challenges of transgenic art

The purpose of this article is to discuss the ethical and political problems facing us at the time of thinking about transgenic art. The text is articulated in three parts that seek to give readers, in the first place, the conceptual tools necessary to think of transgenic art inserted within the panorama of contemporary aesthetics, in order to fullfill this purpose the text presents two works by Eduardo Kac, leading exponent of the movement: Genesis and GFP Bunny. Later, visiting some ideas of Jacques Ranciere, proposes an ethical-political reading of transgenic art and opens a path of discussion to think the role of bioethics in a world where genetic manipulation and the upgrade of the bodies is a reality.
