Within the scope of the CEC programme DRIVE I an international consortium consisting of seven European partners worked on project V1024 'Driver Information Systems' DIS. The goal of the project was to specify the integration of existing systems into a comprehensive DIS operating across Europe, to determine various kinds of requirements, to investigate and develop a system architecture and to define recommendations for pan-European in-vehicle information systems. The work, which was finalized in late 1991, led to the preparation of a Handbook. The contents of this Handbook, i.e. the project's results, are the subject of this paper.
