HIGH-PRESSURE ADSORPTION OF METHANE, NITROGEN AND CARBON-DIOXIDE ON COAL SUBSTRATES

We explore the two-dimensional equation of state representation of the multicomponent adsorption isotherm, building on the researches of de Boer, Kobayashi and Leland. We report pure and multicomponent adsorption isotherms for methane, nitrogen and carbon dioxide on wet coal substrates at high pressure. By employing either a two-dimensional Erying eos or a virial eos, we represent the pure component data using only two adjustable parameters. For pure components we find that our eos representations are equivalent in accuracy to the three parameter Toth. For multicomponents we find, using a single binary interaction parameter, that the cos representation is more accurate than either ideal adsorbed solution theory of Prausnitz and Myers or the generalized Langmuir theory.
