A three-dimensional finite element vector formulation is described for finding the time-harmonic electromagnetic fields in some volume of space containing arbitrary shaped, lossless, inhomogeneous dielectric materials. For flexibility of the curved boundaries description, an isoparametric representation is used by means of quadratic polynomial-based shape functions. The method allows the evaluation of resonance as well as excited fields. A three-dimensional calculation code (ISFEL3D) has been developed, and some numerical applications are given in comparison with other codes and measured results.
