HIGH MAGNETIC-FIELD MEASUREMENTS ON LA1.85SR0.15CUO4-DELTA AND YBA2CU3O7-DELTA

We have measured the magnetoresistivity of the high-Tc superconductors La1.85Sr0.15CuO4-δ and YBa2Cu3O7-δ in dc magnetic fields up to 25 tesla. Conservative extrapolations yield values for the upper critical field at T=0 of 38±5 T for La1.85Cr0.15 CuO4-δ, and of 200±25 T for YBa2Cu3O7-δ. The slope (-dBc2/dT) near Tc for YBa2Cu3O7-δ is about twice as large as in La1.85Sr0.15CuO4-δ. This suggests that the higher Tc of YBa2Cu3O7-δ compared with La1.85 Sr0.15O4-δ may be due to an increased density of states at the Fermi level. For both compounds the magnetoresistivity indicates a large anisotropy of the critical field and a strong spin-orbit scattering.
