CHARACTERISTIC DATA AND OPERATING RESULTS OF A CONTINUOUS HYDROCHLORIC-ACID PICKLING LINE

Experience during two years of operating a new high-duty hydrochloric acid pickling plant at a wide strip cold rolling mill of the Fried. Krupp Huettenwerke AG is described. This includes the layout of the plant, comprising looper cars in the entry section and in the exit section, a scale breaker, five horizontally arranged pickling tanks, and a cascade dip rinsing section. The maximum pickling rate obtained is 240 m/min. The effects of coil weight on throughput, of iron concentration in the pickling solution on power consumption, including the regenerating system, and of iron concentration, temperature of the bath, and acid concentration on pickling rate are discussed.
