This paper describes a hand-written character recognition system, which has been implemented. The system is based on the Ledeen Character Recognizer algorithm. A general outline of the system is given which includes a description of the Ledeen Character Recognizer algorithm. A simple algorithm developed for word recognition using the character recogniser is also described. Towards the end of the paper the scope and limitations of the system are discussed, together with several ideas for improvement and extension of the system. It is hoped that the paper will be of interest to both students and researchers working in the field of character recognition.
