Excess-WO3 Pb(Mg1/2W1/2)O-3-PbTiO3-Pb(Ni2/3Nb2/3)O-3 polycrysstaline dielectric material was investigated. This material met EIA X7R specifications (the change of the capacitance is less than 15% over the temperature range from -55 degrees C to +125 degrees C). The material showed inhomogeneous compositional distributions within grains that consisted of three main parts, each possessing a different temperature dependence of the dielectric constant. It aas found that the flat-temperature dependence of the dielectric constant in this system could be attributed to this inhomogeneous compositional distribution. Using this material, multilayer ceramic capacitors were fabricated.
