摘要
ATMOSPHERIC tests were conducted on aluminium and galvanized steel for a four year-period in the Arabian Gulf atmosphere. Exposure results showed hydrated Al2O3 and KAl(SO4)2.6H2O as corrosion products on aluminium, while ZnO and ZnSO4 constituted the bulk of the corrosion layer on galvanized steel. Dust deposit on specimens consisted of CaAlSi2O7 and CaAlSiO4. Corrosion morphology of exposed samples showed high porosity, large particulates and evidence of dissolution/reprecipitation of corrosion scale. The hot-dip zinc coating exhibited a decline in the rate of weight loss, the average corrosion rate being estimated at 2.8 mum/yr, whereas aluminium displayed a minute but diminishing weight gain with exposure.
