CO SPECIES OF CH3OH ELECTROCHEMICAL DECOMPOSITION ON PLATINUM STUDIED BY VISIBLE-IR SUM-FREQUENCY GENERATION USING CLIO INFRARED FREE-ELECTRON LASER

摘要
Because it is intrinsically surface-selective, infrared-visible sum-frequency generation (SFG) is a useful new technique for in-situ measurement of electrochemical interface. The absolute vibrational spectra of the adsorbate obtained by SFG facilitates the identification of the adsorbed reactants and intermediates. Therefore, we synchronized a frequency doubled mode-locked YAG laser (532 nm) with the CLIO infrared free electron laser (FEL) frequency tuneable from 2.5 to 15 mu m. We recorded the vibrational band of CO at the interface Platinum/HClO4 solution containing CH3OH by SFG near 5 mu m. Our results suggest that the poisoning CO species remains predominantly linearly bounded over the investigated electrode potential range from 0.110 V to 0.510 mV/RHE.
