摘要：
Buds structural characterization was done for two sugarcane cultivars 'NA56-79' and 'SP70-1143', which are susceptible and resistant to smut, respectively. Six upper axillary buds of the stem from 10 plants of each cultivar were morphologically characterized. Number of scales of buds and number of trichomes per square millimeter of the outer scales were statistically analyzed. Histological and anatomical analyses were carried out in healthy and infected buds. The data showed that there is an association between the buds structural characteristics and the cultivars resistance.
