摘要：
A brief review is given of the climatology of gravity waves in the middle atmosphere; i.e., observed variations of wave activity with latitude. Predictions of height variations made by saturation theories are compared with observations and a suggestion is made of what causes a similarity of (averaged) wave amplitudes around the ''globe'' - partly based on the existence of a global source.
