The debates in Cortes on the Law of Bases for the Agrarian Reform. March-September 1932

The Second Republic constitutes one of the most complicated periods of the Contemporary History in Spain. There were lots of projects to rebuild a relatively undeveloped and unequal society, inspired by the political democracy and pursuit of social justice. The agrarian reform was the most courageous attempt to modernize the rural property distribution and modify by that Spanish social and economic structure. These efforts were made in a historical period of very intense social tensions caused by worker organizations demands. In the present essay the main goal is to detect the opposite visions of the society in the Spanish Republic throughout parliamentary debates about the Bases para la reforma agraria project of law, passed in the middle of 1932. Analyzing arguments and images used in will contribute to compound a cultural history of the cuestion agraria.
