DETERMINATION OF LACTIC-ACID AND VOLATILE FATTY-ACIDS IN SILAGE

The SP 1200 phase was tested and was proved to be fully able to separate volatile fatty acids, including lactic acid. It has sufficient selectivity for the separation of both model mixtures and actual samples, if applied onto the Czechoslovak carrier Inerton Super. This combination was suitable after prior modification of the carrier with a 1% solution of trihydrogenphosphoric acid. This method allows to determine the contents of free fatty acids and lactic acid in silage and can be recommeded for broad use in farming practice as a rapid and reliable technique.
