COMPETENCE OF AGENTS IN THE THEORY OF STRUCTURATION BY GIDDENS,ANTHONY

After the numerous attempts on the part of sociologists to elaborate a theoretical approach that incorporates the duality of structure and human agency, A. Giddens proposes a ''general theory'' focused on the notion of <<structuration>>. Rather than seeing action and structure as oppositions within a dualism, he suggests to regard them as the complementary terms of the duality of structure. Every act of production is at the same time an act of reproduction : the structures that render an action possible are, in the performance of that action, reproduced.
