TREATMENT OF FOOD-INDUSTRY WASTE-WATER IN SEQUENCING BATCH REACTORS

Wastewater were treated in laboratory sequencing batch activated sludge reactors (SBR) operated in following combination of streams: IP‐fed with raw industrial park wastes; AnIP‐anaerobically pretreated CS‐industrial wastes; IP waste combined with municipal sewage; AnS‐anaerobically pretreated IP wastes mixed with sewage. All combinations were found easily treatable and all allowed for virtually complete nitrification. Denitrification was inversely proportional to the strength of the influent and was the lowest for AnIP (33%) and highest for IP (95%). The AnIP and AnS streams were found to be fully compatible and non‐inhibitory to nitrifying activated sludge. The AnS combination resulted in a much more stable performance than the CS waste. © 1990 Publications Division Selper Ltd.
