Current dictionaries of the Old Testament often provide much information about personal and place names that could be classified as encyclopaedic information and that is not really relevant to translators. However, unless something sensible is to be said about a personal or place name, is it at all necessary to list names in a dictionary for Bible translators? Furthermore, what sort of information might be useful for translation purposes?
