摘要
The AO classification of vertebral fractures in the thoracolumbar region has proved of value and become well established. The classification of injuries into one of the three main groups should always be undertaken and in every institute. Further specification into the numerous different subgroups is performed more out of scientific interest. The conventional X-ray in two planes continues to play an important role in the diagnostic algorithm. The AP view, in particular, provides valuable information for classifying the frac-ture. However, CT is indispensable to further assess the extent of the injury and to plan the surgical procedure. Magnetic resonance imaging is only included in primary diagnostics as an exception, predominantly for neurological symptoms without evidence for bone damage.
