RESULTS OF SURGERY AND LONG-TERM FOLLOW-UP IN DOGS WITH CERUMINOUS GLAND ADENOCARCINOMA

Medical records of 11 dogs diagnosed with ceruminous gland adenocarcinoma were reviewed. Dogs treated by ear canal ablation and lateral bulla osteotomy (n=7) had a median follow-up of 36 months (range, eight to 72 months) and no recurrence. Dogs treated by lateral ear canal resection (n=4) had a median follow-up of four months (range, three to nine months) and a recurrence rate of 75% (three of these dogs had recurrence). The time to recurrence ranged from four to nine months. Results of this study indicate that dogs with ceruminous gland adenocarcinoma treated by ear canal ablation and lateral bulla osteotomy had a significantly lower recurrence rate (P<0.0242).
