THE EFFECT OF CATEGORICALITY OF PERCEPTION: THE MAIN APPROACHES AND PSYCHOPHYSICAL MODELS

The present work is devoted to the consideration from the point of view of the cognitive approach of the fundamental psychophysical models of categorical effect of perception, features of the experimental procedure of its research, as well as the role of contextual influences on the manifestations of categorical effects in the perception of objects of different modalities. In addition, we present a critical review of the methodology of the study of categorical effects, as well as highlight the key discussion issues related to the analysis of the regularities of the development and functioning of the categorical effect, that require further research.
