摘要
New questions are being asked about the functional role of soil fungi, plant roots and their interactions. Existing methods to study the species composition and biomass of soil fungi and roots are outlined and the limitations of the data derived from them are discussed. The integration of these existing methods and new technologies in multi-disciplinary studies are proposed as the way forward to adding measures of function to those of biomass.
