A VETERINARY ASSOCIATION FOR ANIMAL-WELFARE - AIMS AND ACTIVITIES

The aims of the association are directed at a diverse range of disciplines including animal welfare, based on veterinary knowledge and ethics. It is in the interest of the association to maintain and improve contact with scientific organisations (eg the DVG) and animal welfare groups. The motto of the German Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare is: In dubio pro animal. The widely ranging activities resulted in several workshops on various topics including: livestock pets, stunning and slaughtering, experiments with animals, trade and transport, wild animals and hunting, circuses and zoos. The current aim of the workshop on livestock, given the conditions of marketing competition, is to ensure a high degree of protection for animals. The future activities will be to attain an optimum standard of animal husbandry and management. The main topics for consideration are animal husbandry and management surgery handling and the production of literature, advice and proposals.
