PATTERN OF NUCLEAR ELECTRICITY GENERATING INDUSTRY IN 70 AND 80S

Taking the FRG as an example the probable development of the electricity consumption and the increasing share of nuclear eenergy in its coverage are shown and justified. The resulting conclusions can be extended to the US, EEC (6), UK AND F. Light water reactors will initially have the lion's share in this development because of their lower construction costs, their advanced development status and the higher industrial potential behind them when compared to other reactor types. In order to take full advantage of the possibilities of nuclear energy, however, stronger international cooperation is necessary among the manufacturers, operators and licensing authorities combined with an opening of the market. To achieve this goal, the initial steps must be made today during the introduction of new reactor types like the LMFBR, HTR AND GBR, while allowing for competition on the national and international markets, if a priceworthy generation of electricity is to be assured for the future.
