摘要
The precision winding of fiber optic filament is discussed in this paper. A combination of unique optical fiber characteristics and the particular manner in which the fiber is required to be wound create significant engineering challenges. Described in this paper are a high-speed automatic winder, the technical challenges that are unique to winding of optical fiber, and qualitative analysis of the winding process. Various automatic controller designs and test results are described in [1]. The contributions are distinguished by the fact that automatic winding rate is 10 to 30 times greater than that achieved by operator-assisted winding.
