EFFECT OF SKM-1 CORROSION-INHIBITOR ON STEEL CORROSION AND ON THE CORROSION POTENTIAL FOR IRON IN DISTILLED AND SLIGHTLY MINERALIZED WATER

A high protective effect is established for inhibitor SKM-1 in water containing up to 1 g/liter of anions Cl- and SO42- in the form of a mixture in the range pH 5-10 and 20-80-degrees-C in unstirred solutions and in a flow with a rate of 1 msec. The protective concentration in neutral solutions is 50 mg/liter at 20-degrees-C and it increases with an increase in temperature (DELTAC/DELTAt congruent-to 2.5 mg/degrees-C). The inhibitor prevents local corrosion. It is shown that the corrosion potential for a rotating iron electrode in water inhibited with SKM-1 and saturated with air or oxygen shifts into the region of a passive state.
