Causes of Cracks in Sealing Masonry: Case Study

This paper aims to describe case study research on the diagnostic cracks in sealing masonry, describing their possible causes. The research was conducted in two university buildings in the city of Recife/PE. The working methodology included conducting inspection in buildings, analysis of projects and interviews. The cataloged cracks were classified according to the configurations, and had their possible causes analyzed. The study concluded that there were various types of cracks in the studied buildings, possibly caused by thermal movement, deformation of concrete structure, differential settlement of foundations and differential movement between the buildings.
