摘要
One of the most important issues of music philosophy is the difference between instrumental music (music without words) and vocal music (music with words). Hence, when music does not include words it has got a more abstract and sheer characteristic but it possesses different philosophical dynamics when it contains literal elements, which can be described as concrete. In this study, the difference between pure music and music with words will be scrutinized with the help of the ideas of philosophers from past to today. These ideas are limited to the western philosophy and to some selected philosophers. The ideas scrutinized in the study are expected to provide the opportunity to think and discuss about the meaning and value of music.
