THE WIDE-ANGLE DIFFUSER - A WIDE-ANGLE ABSORBER

A wide-angle diffuser, sometimes also called a Schroeder diffuser, which should scatter incident sound into a wide angular range, has been discussed in the past few years. In order that such diffusers should in reality increase the diffusivity in auditoria, their absorption should be low. There are, however, indications that a high absorption is unavoidable with this type of diffuser. This question is discussed analytically.
