摘要
This paper analyzes film representation of rural in-migrants in cities during the 1940s and early 1950s. The paper concentrates on the case of Madrid. The study focuses on one of the most important films in the history of Spanish cinema, Surcos (JosE Antonio Nieves Conde, 1951). The paper argues that Surcos is a very pessimistic portrait of in-migration. Aimed at explaining this feature, the paper deals with the debate on ideological influences and examines the economic and social context.
