FORMATION OF AN OXYGEN-BRIDGED PYRIMIDINE RING-SYSTEM IN THE BIGINELLI REACTION

摘要
The structure of Biginelli reaction product of salicylaldehyde, urea or thiourea and pentane-2, 4-dione has been reinvestigated and proposed as an oxygen-bridged pyrimidine, thus disproving the structure proposed by Chi & Ling [Acta Chim Sinica, 22 (1956) 177]. The condensation product of salicylaldehyde, urea and acetone or acetophenone has also been identified as an oxygen-bridged pyrimidine.
