摘要
We present a theory that unifies the transport properties in the integer and in the fractional-quantum-Hall-effect regime. We show that the current is carried by incompressible edge channels. However, to generate a net current, electrons have to be added in compressible regions so that the size of the channels is increased. This theory allows us to account for the experimental data when different fractional-quantum-Hall fluids coexist, and to explain the period of the fluctuations near the diagonal-resistance minima.
