A NEW-TYPE OF ELECTRODIALYZER

A new type of electrodialyzer consists of both ion exchange spacer-membranes and electrodes. The electrodialysis stack arrangement has 10 cell pairs (cation and anion) spacer-membranes and an effective cross-sectional area of 156 cm2. The spacer-member is out of level on the surface. It used a desalting test for NaCl saline water with different concentrations ranging from about 2000 ppm to 500 ppm down to 150 ppm. We found by experiment that the device equipped with the stack of ion exchange spacer-membranes can decrease direct current energy consumption by more than 20% and the desalting rate obviously increased comparing with the stack of common heterogeneous membranes under the same operating conditions.
